More 1000 Footsteps Tell the Story
This family lived in a small village in Sudan. This quilt features pictures of the village and the daily activities that took place there. These pictures were painted by a family friend. The house with the red door was the home where the family lived. Life was simple and they worked hard. There was war, poverty, and hunger. Their cattle grew thin.
The family moved to Cairo, Egypt in 2004 and lived there until 2015. There was no refugee camp, so the family struggled to live in a small house.
They arrived in Kansas City, Missouri, November 12, 2015. The husband soon found employment and the children are in school. The mother is taking English classes and sewing classes. She is now supplementing the family income by sewing at home and is training for a job with an employer in the sewing industry.
